Real Peace

How to find peace and to have a relationship with God

Jesus Christ loves you so much and His desire is to have a relationship with you. Unfortunately, we prevent that relationship from ever happening because of what the bible calls sin. Sins are the things that we do that displease God. Romans 3:23 says,
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. So, the first step is to realize that you have done things that displease a holy God. He is perfect, but we are not. Whether you believe your sins (or failures to God) are big or small, you must admit to God that you are a sinner.

Therefore, because all people are sinners, we have to realize that our sins separate us from a holy God. Romans 6:23a says, For the wages of sin is death. It is important to understand that because of our sins, we deserve to die and be separated from God for all of eternity in a place called hell. Believe it or not, this is now much God despises our disobedience.

The next step is to believe that Jesus died on the cross to take away your sins. It is hard to comprehend the free gift of salvation. Most people believe that you have to do something in order to go to heaven. In reality though, the work has already been done, the price has already been paid. Jesus Christ went to the cross to take away your sins so you wouldn’t have to. Salvation can only come through Christ, not by how good you are or how regularly you attend church or even if you’ve ever been baptized. Salvation only comes by believing (trusting, putting your faith in) that Jesus Christ died for you and He is the only way to heaven. Here are a few verses that explain this:

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Finally, you must then commit your life to Him. Salvation is more than just admitting that you are a sinner that has displeased God and then believing that He is the only way to heaven. Salvation is a life changing experience. It is basically surrendering your life to the Lord and no longer doing what you want to do, but now doing what God wants you to do. Here are two verses from the bible that explain this:

Romans 10:9-10
That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

If you would like to invite Jesus Christ into your life and make Him the Lord of you life you can say this simple prayer. But in order for God to hear it, it must come from your heart. So you must mean it, don’t just say it.

Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I have done things that displease You. I know that You died for my sins and You are the only way to heaven. Please forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. I ask You to become the Lord of my life and take control. I surrender my life to You. Thank You for coming into my life and I ask you to help me live for You every day of my life. Amen.

What do I do next?

After you invite Jesus Christ into your live and surrender your life to Him, here are a few things to do to live in obedience to your new King:

  • Find a Bible believing church where you can join and get involved.

Now that you have begun a relationship with God, you need a support group and a network to help your relationship grow.  In Acts 2:47 it says, "And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."  The church belongs to Jesus Christ and He wants you to be involved in what He died for.  Please contact guywire Ministries and we would love to help you locate a bible believing church to help you grow in your new relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
  • Make your decision public at that Bible believing church.

Jesus said, "If you confess Me before men, then I will confess you before My Father.  But if you deny Me before men, then I will deny you before My Father."  It is important that you let other people know that Jesus is Lord of your life.  Let the pastor know that you just invited Christ into your life

  • Get Baptized

Baptism is an act of obedience, not an action that leads to salvation.  After you surrender your life to Jesus, you need to obey Him in every way.  One area is baptism.  This act is one more way of publicly declaring Jesus is Lord of you life.  In Acts 2:38 it says, "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ..."  Then three verses later, we read, "Then they that gladly received His word were baptized…”

  • Read your Bible everyday.

The bible is God's word to man.  First Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."  Begin reading God's word everyday.  There are many resources that can help you to read and understand God's word.  Please contact guywire Ministries and we can help you with a bible reading plan.

  • Pray everyday.

God's word says in First Thessalonians 5:17, "Pray without ceasing." And in Philippians 4:6 it says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God."  If the bible is God's word for man, then prayer is man's words to God.  He does not need you to pray to Him to find out what is going on in your life.  He already knows that.  He wants you to pray to Him so that He can hear your voice and the two of you can have an open dialog.  He loves you that much that you can communicate with Him and prayer is your opportunity to lay all of your burdens down before Him and He will carry them so that you do not have to anymore.

  • Tell other people about what God has done in your life and how He can save them as well.

God has changed your life forever.  In fact, He has changed your eternity.  He rescued you from the path to hell and gave you a new home in heaven that is now waiting for you.  That should excite you.  It should excite you so much that you want to tell other people.  Luke 24:48 says, "And ye are witnesses of these things."  You have experienced a life altering encounter with the living God.  Share with others what you have experienced.

Acts 1:8 says, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."  Go tell other people the good news of Jesus Christ.
